History

On April 1st 2008, Keeping Inn Ltd secured an 80 year lease on Wallsend Golf Course, adjacent land and buildings from North Tyneside Council, it was re-named ‘Centurion Park’. Since acquisition considerable sums have been invested in developing and upgrading this well established parkland course.

The Clubhouse has been completely refurbished and now boasts a spacious, stylish and welcoming Bar called ‘Happy Gilmore's'; a perfect place to relax after a round of Golf, or a visit to our Driving Range and Squash Courts. Locker rooms and shower facilities are of a high standard, many lockers contain points for recharging and storing battery driven Golf trolleys. A large new shop has been developed that stock a wide range of Golf equipment and accessories at competitive prices.

The 24 bay floodlit driving range has been refurbished with new mats and markers, educational mirrors were added, so Golfers can check their swing. New Golf ball dispensers provide a fast and efficient service.

Our Company policy is to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere whilst maintaining the course and the facilities to a high standard. The following is an extract from a letter sent by the Wallsend Golf Club based at Centurion Park:

‘Thanks to investment in new machinery and the hard work and enthusiasm of the green staff, the Golf course is now something to be very proud of. The Lounge/Bar has been transformed and I think it is being supported by the members who are now bringing their wives and children to the Club, something that never happened in the past.

Thank you for the courtesy of the Course for the Northumberland Junior County Match play Championship. The complementary comments I receive from the County officials, players and families who attended games was unbelievable. The presentation of the Course was first class and congratulations to Steve (Head grounds man) and his green staff for all the effort and hard work they have put in preparing it. As usual Richard (Bar manager) and his staff were excellent and I had many comments about the friendly and prompt service everyone received.

Most people did not expect the change to be so dramatic. People are now beginning to realise this Golf course is well worth a visit and that the facilities and hospitality is now something that many clubs I have visited could learn from.

I would like to think that we have established a good working relationship between yourselves, the bar management team and the Golf Club staff and that it will continue in the future to the benefit of all parties concerned.

Once again, my deepest thanks for everything that you have provided for the membership and visitors to Wallsend which I now consider to be one of the best Golf courses in the area.’
